Res Agentica and the laboratory’s questions
Intellectual foundations
The broader work
Res Agentica is an independent foundational work on evidence, economic coordination, and legitimate authority. It asks how consequential machine activity can remain open to inspection and challenge, and what practical independence requires when intelligence, records, and institutional authority are supplied by different parties.
Bulla Labs is an applied research laboratory for Answerable Computing. It investigates selected questions through open software, demonstrations, comparisons, and economic research. Res Agentica has a broader scope than those investigations. It is not a Bulla product, a division of the laboratory, or the authority that determines whether software conforms to the ActionReceipt format.
The connection is a source of questions. A foundational argument can motivate an experiment, but the experiment needs its own methods, evidence, and limits. The laboratory’s findings must stand on those terms, including findings that show a proposed mechanism is unnecessary, ineffective, or not yet supported.
Questions into investigations
Work after its executor
An accepted fix and an unconfirmed delivery create different decisions for a successor. The coding handoff and local review make that distinction inspectable in a constructed example. Suppliers are fictional, code is supplied, and spending is simulated. Recovering the account does not establish current authority, settle the held delivery, or create an enforceable claim to payment.
The cost of a shared record
Portable evidence may help another party make a decision. Whether a shared convention earns its cost is a separate question. In the project-operated scheduling experiment, matched signed records produced the same decisions as ActionReceipts. The economic synthesis examines the work that preparing and using an account requires. Bulla-specific economic superiority has not been established; reduced integration effort and independently operated interoperability remain unmeasured.
When a judgment needs revisiting
A correction can change which later decisions still have adequate support. Declared Lineage research examines review across supplied dependencies. Its bounded models do not establish that every real dependency has been recorded. Retained evidence, decision authority, and resources for a remedy remain distinct requirements.
These investigations address particular parts of the broader argument. They do not establish that one format or institution is necessary everywhere. A competent conventional arrangement may suffice. Continuity also needs limits: permissions can expire, obligations can be discharged, and personal records may require restricted access or appropriate deletion.
Independence
Res Agentica informs the laboratory’s questions; agreement with it is not a condition of using the software, evaluating the evidence, or contributing to the work.
A successful demonstration does not validate the entire foundational argument. A limitation of Bulla does not settle every question Res Agentica asks. Software adoption, criticism, reproduction, and a counterexample are all legitimate ways to engage with the laboratory.
